Meeting High Standards Daily

FOOD QUALITY

image

Zambia Sugar plays a central role in the nation’s food security, producing over 90% of the country’s sugar and fortifying it with Vitamin A in support of Zambia’s National Nutrition Strategy (2023–2027). We are proud to report that all Quality and Food Safety certifications were maintained, including FSSC 22000, Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA), Kosher, Halaal, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), and Coca-Cola supplier permits; each achieved with zero major findings.

Customer complaints dropped to just three during the year, while Right-First-Time performance improved to 98.7%. New Pre-requisite Verification Programmes, supplier audits, and enhanced Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Food Defence training further strengthened the quality culture. Government recognition of our contribution to public health was reflected in the tax exemption granted on Vitamin A premix and fortification equipment, reinforcing our leadership in nutrition and product integrity.

Commitment to Excellence: Where Quality and Food Safety Sweeten Every Bite at Zambia Sugar

SECURITY: BUILDING A SAFER AND MORE RESILIENT ESTATE

Zambia Sugar’s investment in smart security technologies continues to improve the Nakambala Estate security operations despite an increase in crime rates in surrounding communities.

Drone surveillance now covers vast cane fields, deterring theft and monitoring activity with real-time precision. A thermal imaging system installed along Relocation Road has drastically reduced break-ins and night-time thefts, while data-driven patrol coordination ensures faster, safer responses.

Major theft incidents declined sharply, and assault cases dropped from 11 to 1. Collaboration with the Zambia Police, Mazabuka Council, and local leaders has improved community participation and significantly reduced cane theft.

Fire outbreaks were also curtailed, falling from 23 to 11 field cases thanks to community awareness and joint operations.Β  To prevent estate encroachment, we have partnered with local agricultural and environmental teams to identify vulnerable areas, introduce tree-lined natural boundaries, and conduct awareness on sustainable land use.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

QMS

image

We have implemented a quality management system (QMS) that ensures that our products are manufactured and delivered to meet customer and regulatory requirements. Our QMS includes procedures for product design, raw material selection, manufacturing, testing, and customer feedback.

BASED ON HACCP

FOOD SAFETY

image

We are committed to ensuring that our products meet the highest food safety standards. Our food safety program is based on the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system, which is a science-based approach to identifying and controlling food safety hazards. We have implemented HACCP principles throughout our operations, from the selection of raw materials to the delivery of finished products.

DEDICATED LABORATORY

TESTING & ANALYSIS
