PEOPLE INVESTMENT
At Zambia Sugar PLC, our people are the foundation of our performance, resilience and long-term sustainability. Across our agricultural estates, factory operations, refinery, distribution network and corporate functions, our employees drive the value chain that feeds the nation and supports thousands of livelihoods.
Operating in a challenging environment shaped by drought conditions, power constraints and economic headwinds during 2025, our workforce once again demonstrated resilience, professionalism and commitment to excellence.
We remain one of the largest employers in Southern Province and a key contributor to skills development and economic participation in Zambia.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT
Sustained performance requires sustained capability. We continue to invest in technical training, leadership development and operational excellence across all functions. One year after introducing SAP S/4HANA, the system is now embedded across the organisation, improving operational visibility, reporting accuracy and decision-making efficiency. Dedicated teams continue to optimize its performance to ensure full value realization.
Safety leadership has been strengthened through the establishment of a stand-alone Safety function reporting directly to the Managing Director, reinforcing accountability and strategic oversight.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT
We are committed to providing employees with structured opportunities for growth and advancement within the organisation. Our performance management framework includes regular feedback, individual development plans, internal mobility opportunities and succession planning to ensure continuity and capability across all business units.
We believe in developing talent from within and building long-term careers that contribute to organisational resilience.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
We value diversity and inclusion as drivers of stronger performance and better decision-making. Our collaborative model includes both estate operations and outgrower partnerships, with outgrowers supplying 50.1% of total cane in 2025. This balanced ecosystem reflects shared value creation across the agricultural supply chain.
We remain committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive and equitable workplace where all employees can contribute meaningfully and confidently.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
We provide competitive compensation and benefit structures designed to support financial security and wellbeing. Our benefits include pension contributions, medical services, housing support, and paid leave. Engagement initiatives, safety forums and leadership communication sessions reinforce accountability and alignment across the organisation
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Our impact extends beyond our operations into the communities where we live and work. In 2025, we supported 150 women and youth through livelihood programmes, upgraded 150 employee homes under the Entry-Level Housing Upgrade Project, partnered on the βWalk a Mile in My Shoesβ initiative, and planted 7,000 indigenous trees in support of environmental sustainability.
We continue to provide critical water infrastructure to over 17,000 estate residents and Mazabuka town and remain an active member of the End Malaria Council. Through these initiatives, Zambia Sugar continues to contribute meaningfully to national development and environmental stewardship.

SAFETY & HEALTH
Safety remains our highest priority. The tragic loss of a contractor during the 2025 financial year reinforced our unwavering commitment to ensuring that every employee and contractor goes home safely every day, everywhere, without exception.
During the year, we strengthened our safety systems through enhanced leadership visibility, expanded near-miss reporting, increased supervisory oversight, engineering improvements to eliminate unsafe installations, and the continued implementation of the Busongo Safety Behaviour Programme.
