Zambia Sugar PLC is a proud member of the End Malaria Council (EMC). The EMC is a country led and country owned mechanism that brings together senior leaders from government, the private sector, civil society and the community to champion malaria, advocate for it to remain high on the national development agenda and mobilize commitments to close gaps in national malaria strategic plans.In the year under review, Zambia Sugar PLC significantly contributed to the malaria elimination efforts
under the EMC mandates of Advocacy, Resource mobilization and Action & Accountability:

Notable efforts in the year 2025 include supporting advocacy through high level engagements The President of the Republic of Zambia, participation at international and local platforms to showcase its malaria elimination efforts, supporting the mass media engagements such as sponsoring and featuring on various national and community radio programs to champion the malaria fight.

The Company has been instrumental in the End Malaria fundraising initiatives, having hosted 2 golf tournaments in the year under review; the second one being specifically the β€œEnd Malaria” golf tournament. The company mobilised clients, contractors and partner entities to get on board in raising funds towards malaria elimination efforts across the country.

NATIONAL MALARIA ELIMINATION PLANS

ACTION & ACCOUNTABILITY

The Company implements malaria programs in line with the National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plans. The programs include vector control, such as indoor residual spraying, distribution of nets and environmental management to control mosquito breeding (Laval Source Management).

The Company also implements both community and health facility malaria case management to ensure that all community members are tested and treated if found with malaria. Other interventions include social behaviour change communication, through community sensitizations at various platforms.

Malaria can indirectly impact productivity due to sick leave, lost work productivity, and time spent seeking treatment. Malaria causes a lot of absenteeism in which the affected individual fails to report for work. By investing in the malaria elimination interventions, the company can contribute significantly towards ending malaria for good. These efforts also enhance productivity and create a more resilient workforce which positively contributes to the national economy.
