Zambia Sugar PLC is Zambiaβs leading producer of sugar and sugar products, proudly marketed under the iconic Whitespoon brand. The Company is a member of the ABF Sugar group, which is wholly owned by Associated British Foods (ABF), a diversified international food, ingredients and retail group.
Operating in Zambia since 1966, Zambia Sugar has grown into one of the countryβs most trusted and recognisable brands. Based at Nakambala in Mazabuka, the Company is the largest employer in Southern Province and plays a significant role in national food security, agricultural development and export growth.

MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE & INVESTMENT
During the 2025 financial year, the factory achieved an average crush rate of 730 tonnes of cane per hour, exceeding design capacity. A total of 3,191,074 tonnes of cane were crushed, producing 372,328 tonnes of sugar, including 88,935 tonnes of refined sugar, reflecting strong operational performance and efficiency.
To support long-term growth, 22 factory capital projects were completed at a cost of K185 million, alongside the commissioning of the K400 million Falling Film Evaporator Project to enhance throughput and energy efficiency. Own power generation increased to 109 GWh, advancing the Companyβs strategic objective of greater energy self-sufficiency.
FOOD SECURITY & NUTRITION LEADERSHIP
Zambia Sugar produces over 90% of the countryβs sugar and fortifies it with Vitamin A in support of Zambiaβs National Nutrition Strategy, reinforcing its role in national food security and public health.
In 2025, the Company further strengthened its quality performance, reducing customer complaints to just three while improving Right First Time performance to 98.7%. All key certifications were successfully maintained with zero major findings, including FSSC 22000, ZCSA, Kosher, Halaal, KEBS and Coca-Cola supplier approvals, reflecting a continued commitment to world-class quality and food safety standards.



AWARDS & RECOGNITION
In 2025, Zambia Sugarβs performance and leadership were recognised through several prestigious awards. The Company received the Best Factory Performance Award and the Best Commercial Performance Award within the ABF Sugar group, reflecting strong operational and market execution.
We were also honoured with the Zambia Association of Manufacturers Ambassador of the Year Award and the ZAM @ 40 Honorary Award in recognition of its longstanding contribution to the manufacturing sector. In addition, Zambia Sugar received the 2025 Sustainability Award at the Zambia Capital Market Conference, underscoring its continued commitment to operational excellence, sustainability, sound governance and national development.

We are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for our employees. We have implemented a comprehensive safety and health program that includes regular safety training, hazard assessments, and safety audits.


QUALITY & FOOD SAFETY

Our SHERQ program is comprehensive and is designed to ensure that we operate in a way that is safe for our employees, our communities, and the environment. We are committed to continuous improvement in our SHERQ performance, and we believe that collaboration with our stakeholders is essential to achieving our goals.
ALLIANCE FOR WATER STEWARDSHIP (AWS)
Zambia Sugar continues to lead in responsible water and environmental stewardship, achieving a 24% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions and an 18% reduction in water withdrawal in 2025, while recording zero major environmental incidents. As a member of the Alliance for Water Stewardship, the Company commenced implementation of the AWS Standard, becoming only the second organisation in Zambia to do so, and played a key role in launching the Kafue Flats Joint Action Group Five-Year Strategic Plan 2025β2030, further supporting national efforts toward sustainable wetland management and long-term environmental resilience.


GOVERNANCE & INTEGRITY
Zambia Sugar PLC operates under robust corporate governance structures aligned with Lusaka Securities Exchange requirements, IFRS Accounting Standards and the Zambia Companies Act. The Company maintains an independent internal audit function and is externally audited by EY Zambia to ensure transparency and accountability. Strong insider trading and share dealing policies are enforced, supported by a comprehensive Code of Conduct and the Speak Up whistleblowing hotline, reinforcing a culture of integrity, ethical leadership and responsible business practice.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Zambia Sugarβs impact extends far beyond sugar production, with meaningful investments in community development and public health. In 2025, 150 women and youth benefited from gardening and beekeeping empowerment programmes designed to strengthen livelihoods, while 150 employee homes were upgraded under the Entry-Level Housing Upgrade Project to provide safer and more dignified living conditions.
The Company also continued to supply reliable 24/7 potable and raw water to more than 17,000 estate residents and the wider Mazabuka community. As a committed member of the End Malaria Council, Zambia Sugar has maintained zero reported malaria incidents at its sites for several years and actively supports national elimination efforts through advocacy, resource mobilisation and targeted action programmes.
