Zambia Sugar Backs Women in Agribusiness at High Level Climate Roundtable

Zambia Sugar has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive agricultural growth after participating in a high level Business Leaders Roundtable focused on empowering women in agribusiness.

The meeting, held at Sarovar Hotel in Lusaka, brought together key stakeholders including Women Leaders for Climate Action, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa, and Absa Bank Zambia. The dialogue formed part of activities marking the United Nations International Year of the Woman Farmer.

Zambia Sugar was represented by Managing Director Oswald Magwenzi, who joined other industry leaders to examine structural barriers affecting women in agriculture. Discussions focused on access to finance, land ownership, climate resilience, and market participation.

According to participants, women make up a large share of the agricultural workforce in Zambia, yet many face limited access to capital and climate smart technologies. Leaders at the roundtable emphasized the need for coordinated policy reforms, stronger financial inclusion, and targeted investment in women led enterprises.

Zambia Sugar stated that supporting women farmers strengthens supply chains and improves food security. The company reiterated its commitment to sustainable agriculture and inclusive transformation through partnerships and community programs.

By aligning business strategy with climate action and gender equity, Zambia Sugar aims to contribute to long term agricultural resilience and economic growth in Zambia.
