Pupils at Nakambala Estate Receive More Than Shoes in Inspiring Community Initiative

A simple pair of shoes became a powerful symbol of dignity and hope for young learners at Nakambala Estate, as pupils from four primary schools benefited from the Walk a Mile in My Shoes initiative.

The program, led by Zambia Sugar’s Managing Director Mr. Oswald Magwenzi, in partnership with Zambeef Products Plc under the leadership of Ms. Faith Mukutu, delivered footwear which instilled confidence, motivation, and a renewed belief in the future.

During the handover, the two companies emphasized that investing in children is a direct investment in the country’s progress. The initiative aimed to ensure that every child walks into school with comfort and pride, empowering them to focus on learning and to dream beyond their circumstances.

“These shoes are a reminder to our children that they matter, that their dreams are valid, and that their journey is supported,” Mr. Magwenzi shared during the event. Ms. Mukutu echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of partnerships that create lasting impact in communities.

For the pupils, the smiles, laughter, and excitement spoke louder than words. Each pair of shoes represented a step toward opportunity and a step away from barriers that often limit young learners in underserved communities.

Because when children walk forward with confidence, entire communities rise with them.
